The Eco Community just started a new initiative on Kialo. To get you started with Kialo and help you in contributing to the discussion, we've created this guide. If you haven't used Kialo before, be sure to have a quick look at the following. And: we're really looking forward to you joining the discussion on Kialo! What is Kialo?

Kialo is a debate platform that is powered by reason. It seeks to cut through the noise typically associated with social and online media, making it easy to engage in a focused discussion.

Mapped discussions

One of Kialo's main features is to map discussions so that you can see complex issues more clearly.

Structure

Kialo enables you to visualize discussions as an interactive tree of pro and con arguments. At the top is the thesis, which is supported or weakened by pro and con arguments underneath.

Thesis:

At the top level of a discussion is a “thesis” (or multiple theses), which is the statement participants argue for or against. The thesis is the starting point of the discussion.

Pro and Con Arguments:

Kialo discussions are made up of claims, which are, in their simplest form, a single piece of an argument. They come in the form of either a pro, which argues for the claim above it, or a con, which argues against it.
